Brian Heagle

Brian Heagle, Chair

Brian is a founding partner of Feltmate, Delibato, Heagle LLP, a corporate-based law firm with offices in the Halton region. As a corporate/commercial lawyer, Brian is also a sought-after speaker for professional conferences and other events. He is a Burlington native and an active volunteer with many organizations. Brian is committed to the YMCA's philanthropic culture and proud of its leadership role as an inclusive community welcome to everyone. He currently serves as Chair of the Board Development Committee, Vice-Chair of the CEO Performance Appraisal Committee and a member of the Nominating Sub-Committee.

Bruce Pearson

Bruce Pearson, Vice Chair

Bruce Pearson is President of Pearson-Dunn Insurance & Financial Services Inc. Bruce is a strong YMCA supporter and serves as Chair of the Audit Committee, Vice-Chair of the Board Development Committee and as a member of the Nominating Sub-Committee. Bruce is a member of the Mountain Community Campaign Team. He serves as current secretary of the Governing Board of the Insurance Institute of Ontario and is a Past President of the Registered Insurance Institute of Ontario. Bruce is past Vice Chair of the Hamilton Police Services Board. He is a long time Rotarian and former President of Ancaster AM Rotary.

Brenda Flaherty

Brenda Flaherty, Past Chair

Brenda Flaherty is a resident of Hamilton. She is the Executive Vice-President Clinical Operations at Hamilton Health Sciences and an Assistant Professor of Nursing at McMaster University. Brenda is Chair of the CEO Performance Appraisal Committee and serves on the Board Development Committee and the Nominating Sub-Committee, contributing her expertise, knowledge and skill to the Association. Brenda has demonstrated a commitment to health enhancement in our local community and has become an enthusiastic member of the YMCA family advocating the YMCA's work and Charitable Mission.

Glenn Agro 

Glenn Agro

Glenn is a Senior Partner with BDO Dunwoody LLP and has over 23 years experience as a chartered accountant. During his career, Glenn has been awarded one of the highest honours in accounting, Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA), for his outstanding services to the profession. As one of the youngest among a small and elite group of colleagues across Canada, he has recently received the Corporate Finance (CF) designation, identifying excellence in corporate finance advising. Beyond his involvement in numerous speaking engagements, Glenn also has extensive community volunteer experience. Currently, Glenn is the Chair of the Endowment Fund Committee and serves on the CEO Performance Appraisal Committee and the Board Development Committee. Glenn is a member of the Board of The National Broadcast Reading Service Inc., the Lynwood Hall Children's Centre and the Lynwood Hall Children's Centre Foundation.

Craig Alexander

 

Craig Alexander

Craig Alexander is Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist for TD Bank Financial Group. In his role, he travels across Canada, speaking to TD clients and various business groups about economic trends and prospects. He is also frequently quoted by the media on economic issues and writes reports on a wide array of economic and financial subjects. Craig serves as a Member of the Audit Committee and Endowment Fund Committee. In addition to his duties at TD, Craig is also the President of the Canadian Association for Business Economics.

 Greg Anderson

Greg Anderson

Greg Anderson has been Superintendent of Education with the Grand Erie District School Board since 2000. Prior to that Greg was an elementary school principal for 13 years with the Halton District School Board. He has responsibility for day-to-day operations of all 42 elementary and secondary schools in Haldimand and Norfolk counties. Greg has authored 2 books and several magazine articles on parenting and schooling and works out regularly at the Brantford YMCA. Greg lives with his wife Kim southwest of Brantford near Scotland, Ontario.

 

David Estok

 

David Estok

David Estok is the Editor in Chief of The Hamilton Spectator. He is the former Associate Business Editor for Maclean's Magazine and has worked as a senior reporter, senior editor and writer for several publications including the Financial Post and the Hamilton Spectator. David holds a Masters degree in Journalism from Carleton University and an Honours BA in English and History from Western. Prior to accepting his current role at the Spectator, David was a Board member with the YMCA of London.

Hillary Dawson

 

Hillary Dawson

Hillary Dawson is President of the Wine Council of Ontario, a non-profit trade association with a leadership role in marketing and establishing policy and future directions for the wine industry in Ontario. Hillary is a well-known, well-respected and frequent speaker on organization, strategic planning, communications and outreach initiatives at political conferences and stakeholder training meetings. Hillary currently serves as Chair of the Hamilton Downtown Work Group and is a member of the Mountain Community Campaign Team. Hillary and her family reside in Hamilton.

 Cynthia Janzen

Cynthia Janzen

Cynthia Janzen is Vice President and Senior Consultant at Hellingman Communications Inc., a full-service public relations and marketing agency location in Hamilton. Cynthia serves as a member of the Philanthropy Committee, the CEO Performance Appraisal Committee and the Hamilton Downtown Work Group. An accredited public relations professional and Hamilton resident, Cynthia has given her time to several local boards including the Canadian Public Relations Society, Rotary Club of Hamilton (Downtown) and the Hamilton Gallery of Distinction.

 

Bill LeVan

Bill LeVan has a long history of business experience and success, most notably with Westcast Industries Inc. of Brantford, Ontario. Bill has translated his leadership with Westcast into providing his expertise and guidance to numerous start up enterprises. Bill has been a long time supporter of the YMCA and is a member of the Governance Committee and the Audit Committee. 

 Vicky Smith

Vicky Smith

Vicky Smith is the Regional Rehabilitation Coordinator working directly with the Regional Rehabilitation Network and the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integrated Network and all integral stakeholders. This position looks to improve rehabilitation care for patients and their families and to influence the system to ensure that adequate services and supports are available throughout the region. Vicky has been an active YMCA member for 26 years and a Board Member with the Brantford YMCA. As a Board Member Vicky has chaired the Art Auction, the major fundraiser for the Brantford YMCA for 3 years, served as President and Past President, and shared her skills on a number of committees. Vicky is looking forward to continuing her volunteer work on the new integrated YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford Board of Directors.

 Jim Westaway

Jim Westaway

During Jim Westaway's business career, he ran several Canadian public companies and served on several Boards of Directors, some of which he is still involved. Jim has been a policy volunteer in the YMCA, both at the local and national level for more than three decades most recently as a Board member of the Brantford YMCA. Today, Jim is retired. He and his wife Nancy live in Brantford.

 Leah VanAllen-Haase

Leah VanAllen-Haase

Dr. Leah VanAllen-Haase is an associate dentist at The Market Street Dental Group in Brantford. As a child she was involved in the Brantford YMCA's swimming and gymnastics programs, day camp and as a counsellor at the Brantford YMCA's Pinehurst Summer Day Camp. Leah attended the University of Western Ontario and University of Detroit Mercy, where she earned her degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. Leah is currently living in Paris and is also a Board Member of the Willett Hospital Foundation and a Brantford Rotary Club.

Mary Williams

Mary Williams

Mary Williams is the Associate Vice President of University Advancement at McMaster University. Mary serves on the Board Development Committee and Philanthropy Committee. Mary is an active volunteer and has served a number of local and national organizations and is currently a member of the Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors and an executive member of the Board for the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education.  Mary and her husband Rob both have a long history with the YMCA. 

 Brian Wood

Brian Wood

Brian Wood is President of Con Cast Pipe Ltd., a leading Canadian manufacturer of concrete products. Brian is a life long Brantford resident and his entire family are regular YMCA participants. Brian is Past Chair of the Board of Directors, Member of the Audit Committee and Co-chair of the Governance Committee.
