These are some of the key words that describe the people who will be contributing to each participant's enjoyment and potential throughout the year. The Wanakita staff is composed of full-time YMCA professionals who are supported seasonally by program and site service specialists, teachers, university, college, and senior secondary school students. All staff are specially selected for their leadership abilities, and each year take part in extensive training programs in preparation for their roles during the different seasons at Wanakita.
Steve Heming - General Manager (B. Human Kinetics, B. Education) is a full time YMCA professional with over thirty years of camp and outdoor education experience. He has been a camper, counselor, leadership and program director, and before he became the Director in 1986, Steve was Wanakita's Assistant Director/Site manager and Coordinator of the camp's year-round Outdoor Centre. His association with Wanakita has provided a consistent quality to program, staff and site development. Steve is strongly committed to providing the positive environment necessary for developing leadership in today's children and youth as well as creating an atmosphere of learning, fun, creativity and adventure for those adult and family campers.
